Iraq's pavilion at the World Expo is centered around evoking the profound depth of its ancient civilizations and the intricate diversity of its cultural heritage. It takes visitors on a contemplative journey beyond time, leading them through epochs of glory and craftsmanship, starting from the dawn of Mesopotamian civilization to its rich and varied artisanal heritage. The pavilion stretches across a wide expanse, intertwining like a contemporary historical tapestry, where architectural masses overlap in gradients inspired by Sumerian and Assyrian building styles, which were distinguished by irrigation systems that served as the lifeblood of the land.
The pavilion draws from the spirit of the Hanging Gardens, that legendary symbol of the genius of earth and water, reviving the concept by blending agriculture with engineering. In every corner, Iraqi handicrafts breathe deeply from a long history of pottery and sculpture, like a distant echo of bygone civilizations, pulsing with the cultural diversity that defines the country from north to south.
At the heart of this experience stands a spiraling tower ascending through space, embodying the whirlwind of events that have swept through Iraq over the centuries. It acts as an invitation to reflect on the intertwining of times and destinies. Green spaces cloak the surfaces of the architectural masses, simulating the lush vegetation that once covered the Hanging Gardens. This allows visitors not only the opportunity to interact with this heritage but also to immerse themselves in it, walking through it and becoming part of this unique experience where the past and present unite in a moment of deep reflection.
